A crowded field of over a dozen candidates looking to become Miami's next mayor was narrowed down to two candidates who will head to a runoff in December.
Eileen Higgins, with over 35% of the vote, and Emilio T. Gonzalez, with over 19%, were the projected top two finishers Tuesday in the city's mayoral election.
"Tonight, the people of Miami made history. Together, we turned the page on years of chaos and corruption and opened the door to a new era for our city — one defined by ethical, accountable leadership that delivers real results for the people," Higgins said in a statement.
Higgins is a Miami-Dade County Commission member who unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022.
Gonzalez is the former Miami City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer.
