The face of women’s college basketball may reside in South Bend this season. Just don’t ask Hannah Hidalgo about it.
“I’m just here to hoop,” the Notre Dame point guard said when Dan Patrick tried to bestow that title on her. “Is that what (people) are saying? I don’t know.”
Hidalgo certainly has a claim on the distinction. With Paige Bueckers off to the WNBA and JuJu Watkins missing the entire season with a knee injury, the junior has arguably the most decorated résumé of any player in the country, including back-to-back first-team All-American selections and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
