Pontiac City Council President Mike McGuinness was leading for mayor in early results Tuesday, while Southfield's incumbent mayor was ahead of a former City Council member in early results.
McGuinness was ahead 54%-45% over former city councilor Kermit Williams in the election to become Pontiac's next mayor. The winner will succeed Mayor Tim Greimel, who is running for Michigan's 10th Congressional District. Greimel took over as mayor following an FBI investigation into public corruption allegations surrounding current and former city officials.
Because Pontiac has a strong mayor form of government, the winner will serve as both the city's administrator and figurehead.
