ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Democrat Dorcey Applyrs has declared victory over Republican opponent Rocco Pezzulo in the 2025 Albany mayoral race. Her win marks a historical moment for the city as she becomes Albany's first ever Black mayor.
In her candidate interview with NEWS10, Applyrs stated that she plans on boosting Albany's public safety by implementing an office of violence prevention as well as improving staffing and retention in the Albany Police Department. The Democrat also said that she will strive to address the city's housing shortage and elevate its position as an entertainment and cultural destination.
