COLUMBIA COUNTY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Democrat Jackie Salvatore has been elected as the next Columbia County Sheriff, according to the Columbia County Board of Elections. Salvatore ran against Republican John Rivero.

Salvatore is currently the county's undersheriff and follows Sheriff Donald Krapf, who didn't seek reelection. A lifelong Columbia County resident, Salvatore is the first woman of color to be elected as a county sheriff in New York. With all districts reporting, she earned an unofficial 58.03% of the vote to Rivero's 41.89%.
