NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Incumbent New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker has declared a victory Tuesday evening in the city’s mayoral race.
Elicker, a 50-year-old Democrat, says he has defeated his Republican challenger, Steve Orosco, by a margin of over 80%.
Votes are still being counted, and no official results have been announced as of 10 p.m. However, Elicker is confident he has won by a large margin.
“Tonight, voters sent a clear message,” Elicker said in a release. “They want steady, experienced leadership to continue the progress we’ve made together. I’m honored by the confidence New Haven residents have placed in me, and I’m ready to keep delivering results for our community.”
According to Elicker, tomorrow is a new day for New Haven, and he expressed excitement about moving forward.
