BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - For generations, Alabama families have gathered around the television to watch Sesame Street, Daniel Tiger, Arthur and Nova. But that long-running tradition could soon change.
Alabama Public Television (APT) is considering cutting ties with PBS — a move that one commissioner says could fundamentally reshape what viewers across the state see on their screens.
APT Commissioner Pete Conroy says the potential split came as a shock.
“For me, it was kind of a ‘say what’ moment,” said Conroy.
Conroy says he learned of the possible separation during a board meeting last week — a meeting he thought would be business as usual.
“I strolled into that meeting last Tuesday not knowing that one of the topics would be severing the ties with PBS,” Conroy said.
