ST. PAUL — Minnesota’s Department of Children, Youth and Families Commissioner Tikki Brown reported Tuesday, Nov. 4, that the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is seeing continued disruptions despite federal court orders to fund the program.
The USDA issued guidance on Tuesday that clarified it would comply with courts and partially fund the program during the shutdown despite President Donald Trump threatening to defy court orders. Despite the court orders, Brown said the USDA’s new guidance for a 50% reduction in benefits and an additional 30% reduction for a working household member will create delays.
“Unfortunately, the newly issued benefit table has a brand new reduction with a new code, which will require us to recode our eligibility system,” she explained. “
