LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Long lines were wrapped around the block Tuesday at the Just One Project, as panic grows over where to find food next. CEO Brooke Neubauer compared the desperation to the pandemic, as their volunteers are working diligently to keep up with demand.
On a normal day, the non-profit organization, located near Decatur Boulevard and Vegas Drive, usually sees approximately 200 people at its doors. Monday, they served about 700 people. On Tuesday, they estimated serving around 1,000 people.
“This is unreal, but people need to eat,” said longtime volunteer Gilda Drake regarding the lines. In her five years, she said she had never witnessed it that busy.
For some, it was not their first time waiting in that line in an attempt to get food. A woman, who asked to remain anonymous
