ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - The Alcohol and Drug Awareness Council, also known as ‘ADAC’ will have to say ‘no’ to more than 200 clients. This comes after federal funding cuts were made early this year.

“All we know is that the number of people we’ve been serving, now have no service options in this area,” said ADAC director of prevention, Kim Simmons.

ADAC serves 12 Deep East Texas counties, providing drug and substances, prevention, recovery and support group programs. In order to keep programs ongoing, ADAC uses grant funding from the U.S. Health and Human Services Administration. However, there was a $400,000 cut for the 2026 fiscal year.

“When the grants came out, they offered to fund them but partially fund them. And when we say partially, very partially,” said Simmons.
