The off-season isn’t even three days old and the Blue Jays have solidified an important spot in their starting rotation.
Shane Bieber, acquired by the team a the 2025 trade deadline and an important arm for the team down the stretch, has activated his player option to remain with the team for the 2026 season.
Under the terms of the deal he originally signed with the Cleveland Guardians, Bieber will be paid $16 million US next season and slot into a rotation that is likely to include Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage and Jose Berrios, who missed the entire post-season while recovering from an elbow injury.
A former Cy Young Award winner, Bieber recovered from Tommy John surgery in 2024 and was working his way back to the big leagues at the time of the trade.
