Reese Metcalfe scored the only goal of the game in the second half, as Freehold Township defeated Marlboro, 1-0, in their first-round, NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 4 playoff.
The sixth-seeded Patriots ended a four-game losing streak. They’ll await the winner of Wednesday’s first-round game between third-seeded Old Bridge and 14th seeded New Brunswick.
Freehold Township improved to 7-10-2. Junior Violet Matthews made four saves on the way to her fifth shutout of the season.
Marlboro fell to 9-10-1 with its sixth straight loss.
