Bristol Airport slammed for hiding memorial to landmine hero behind cash machines View 3 Images

Bristol Airport has been accused of “callously disrespectful” behaviour after a memorial to a man who was murdered while clearing landmines in Cambodia was hidden behind two new cash machines.

A plaque dedicated to the memory of Christopher Howes, a mine clearing expert and former army engineer from Backwell, North Somerset , was previously prominently displayed on one of the airport’s walls.

Mr Howes and his interpreter Huon Hourth were kidnapped and murdered by Khmer Rouge guerrillas in 1996 while Howes was leading a team from the Mines Advisory Group clearing landmines in the Cambodian jungle.
