Voters in the Oregon Trail School District rejected a facilities bond that would have raised the taxes paid by property owners from $1.66 per $1,000 of assessed property value to $2.78 per $1,000.
That meant that a homeowner with an average assessed property value of $288,000 would have paid about $800 a year, according to the district, an increase of about $323 per year.
Partial returns as of 8 p.m. showed the bond failing with 74% of voters saying no.
Specific projects that the bond would have paid for included replaced or repaired roofs, gutters and siding at elementary and middle schools; new or repaired heating, ventilation and cooling systems; replacement of portable classrooms at Kelso and Naas elementary schools and Boring Middle School; and remodeled or new cafeterias or gyms
