AKRON, Ohio — Voters elected four candidates to the Board of Education Tuesday night to help lead the district through a period of major transition and financial uncertainty.
Eight candidates squared off for four open seats, including three incumbents and five newcomers. It was overwhelmingly the newcomers' night — Gregory Harrison was the only incumbent to retain his seat, and there will be three new faces on the board.
The following candidates won seats (listed in order of percentage of the vote received):
Phil Montgomery (17.20%) , Summit County's director of finance and budget, who said he's running for his two daughters enrolled in APS.
Incumbent Gregory Harrison (14.75%) , a pastor and former Akron police officer who was appointed to the board last year to fill a vacancy.
