BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont voters rejected Proposition C on Tuesday, defeating a $37 million bond proposal for parks, trails and recreation projects across the city.
Proposition C failed, receiving only 5,224 votes or 47.73% of the total 10,946 votes.
The proposition's failure came as part of the city's first bond election in 43 years. The $37 million represented one of five propositions in a $264 million package approved by the city council and Mayor Roy West earlier this year.
Proposition A was the only bond that Beaumont voters said yes to. They also rejected the city's venue tax.
The largest allocation in Proposition C would have been $25 million for upgrades and added amenities to Tyrrell Park. The proposition also would have included $7.4 million to convert softball fields at A
