BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont voters rejected Proposition D on Tuesday, defeating a $12.5 million bond proposal for an extension of Riverfront Park.
Proposition D failed, receiving only 4,083 votes or 37.51% of the total 10,886 votes.
Beaumont voters only said yes to Proposition A, the $58 million infrastructure bond. They also rejected the city's venue tax.
The proposition's failure came as part of the city's first bond election in 43 years. The $12.5 million represented one of five propositions in a $264 million package approved by the city council and Mayor Roy West earlier this year.
Proposition D would have funded an 8.25-acre expansion of Riverfront Park with family-focused amenities, an amphitheater and four storefronts.
