Cicero, N.Y. -- The race for Cicero town supervisor between a Democratic newcomer and a Republican incumbent who is a retired police officer is too close to call, an Onondaga County election official confirmed.

With 100% of the vote in, Democrat Rob Santucci is leading by 37 votes, according to unofficial results.

Santucci got 2,983 votes. Michael Aregano, a Republican, got 2,946 votes.

But there are 234 absentee ballots still outstanding, according to the county board of elections. Some of those could still arrive at the Board of Elections in time to be counted. That counting starts next week.

As of about 11 p.m., Aregano had not conceded.

“If I do concede, I will be back next year,” he said. “Politics is about blood, sweat and tears. It was worth every bit of it.”
