CHARDON, Ohio – Geauga County voters on Tuesday appeared to narrowly favor a 20-year, 1.2-mill property tax increase and renewal levy to fund improvements and maintenance across the Geauga Park District, according to early results from the Geauga County Board of Elections.

With early in-person and absentee ballots counted, unofficial totals showed the levy leading 52.3% to 47.7% — 2,181 votes to 1,991. The measure would secure about $3.38 million in annual funding for the county’s park system if the results hold. The results so far do not include any of the voting precincts reporting their tallies.

The proposal seeks to renew an existing 0.7-mill levy first approved in 1985 and adds 0.5 mills in new taxes, which would cost property owners an additional $17.50 per year for every $100,000
