LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) - A mysterious arson spree at a Lake Placid landmark on this day in history.
On November 5, 1991, the first in a series of arson fires took place at the old Lake Placid Club.
Over the next five years, a dozen fires were set at the sprawling resort.
Five buildings were destroyed, including two major structures.
State police and federal agents investigated the fires, and suspects were identified, but no arrests were ever made.
The club had been closed since 1980, and most of the remaining buildings were demolished in 2006.
