It’s been a busy 24 hours for Newfoundland Power crews who were trying to maintain and restore power to customers throughout the island.

Spokesperson Glenda Power says up to 12,700 customers were without power at the storm’s peak last night.

She says crews were kept busy restoring service and pulling downed trees and branches off lines.

As of this morning, some 3,900 customers were still without power.

She’s urging anyone who sees a downed line to give them a call, and stay well away.

“Mind the lines,” says Power, “and stay back at least ten metres, and report any hazards immediately,” by calling 1-800-474- 5711.
