Sawyer Clifton grew up playing sports — football, basketball, baseball.
He was excited to get his high school athletic career going as a freshman at Seton Catholic.
But in his first football game, his prep career nearly ended.
Now a senior, and after a grueling road back to the playing field, Clifton has learned to appreciate every opportunity to play the sports he loves.
Clifton will carry that perspective with him when he takes the football field for Camas as a starting defensive tackle on Friday, when the Papermakers host Olympia in the Class 4A Week 10 playoff at Doc Harris Stadium.
“Kind of what I learned from all of it was just like gratitude and being humble,” Clifton said. “You never know when your last play is going to be.”
Clifton’s journey began his freshman season at Seto
