SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A South Dakota woman is pursing the governor's seat for the state as an independent party.
Allison Renville, of Sioux Falls, donned a necklace when she met up for a media interview Monday, not far from the South Dakota State Penitentiary.
"I got this as a present from one of my friends inside the prison," Renville said. "One of the things that I really care about are making sure that our relatives inside the prison are taken care of."
It's a concern that extends to others.
"I'm really passionate about speaking up for people who can't speak up for themselves, and when it comes to the prison, we need to create a safe environment for everyone," Renville said. "That means administration, that means employees and especially the people who call it home."
