DETROIT -- Right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo, a former first-round pick of the Detroit Tigers, was designated for assignment by the Tampa Bay Rays this week.

The move cleared a roster spot for outfielder Ryan Vilade, another former Tiger, who was acquired from the Cincinnati Reds for cash considerations.

Faedo battled shoulder issues and didn’t pitch at all in 2025.

The Tigers traded Faedo to Tampa in February for minor-league catcher Enderson Delgado and cash considerations.

Faedo, who turns 30 next week, is a Tampa native who had been in the Tigers’ organization since he was drafted with the No. 18 overall pick out of the University of Florida in 2017.
