LIV Golf are making a radical change to their tournament structure in 2026 by moving to 72 holes - a decision Rory McIlroy has branded 'peculiar'.
Ever since their inception in 2022, the radical golf tour have deployed 54-hole events, with the majority of tournaments played from Friday to Sunday.
The Saudi-backed league are also moving away from it's name, with LIV translating to 54 in Roman numerals.
Under the current 54-hole format, players have been denied Official World Golf Ranking points.
It is believed that the new change by LIV's new CEO Scott O'Neil has been done so in order to secure ranking points as they look to continue to grow.
Points are crucial for players in their quest to qualify for the four Majors [Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, The Open].
