A preliminary 3.1 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday morning south of Gilroy, centered near San Juan Bautista, according to the United States Geological Survey .

The temblor was recorded at 7:12 a.m. and centered about 10-12 miles south of Gilroy, the USGS said.

Further information was not immediately available.
