The Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Labour has numerous concerns about the federal budget, including what it sees as the lack of affordability measures.

The Liberals are planning to eliminate about 40,000 positions in the civil service over the next three years, including 16,000 this coming year.

President Jessica McCormick says, to put that in perspective, there are abut 8,000 federal workers in Newfoundland and Labrador, many of whom work at the CRA in St. John’s.

She says there are federal workers throughout the province helping people prepare taxes, providing food safety services, (and) public safety through the Coast Guard.”
