Energy and Mines minister Lloyd Parrott says he’ll “believe it when he sees it” after Ottawa announced that it will remove the federal emissions cap.

Mark Carney’s budget yesterday set the wheels in motion for the eventual removal of a federal emissions cap on oil production, something Newfoundland and Labrador had been calling for for quite some time.

Lloyd Parrott told reporters this morning that companies do not want to come to this province until it’s gone.

“We’ve been pushing for it since 2019. I’ll believe it when I see it. I hope that they keep their word and do it. But if oil and gas is to succeed, everything we do, the economy is driven by what we can produce and how we do things” says Parrott.
