SALT LAKE CITY — A new report shows Utah’s ski industry isn’t just good for powder days. It’s powering the state’s economy.

According to the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute , skiing and snowboarding pumped more than $2.5 billion into the state’s economy last winter, generating $342 million in tax revenue and supporting more than 31,000 jobs statewide.

“The revenue helps fund public services and infrastructure improvements across Utah well beyond the ski season in Utah, well into the spring, summer, fall, etc,” said Nick Thiriot, communications director for the Institute.

But Thiriot said it’s about more than just the numbers.

“The existence of a strong ski industry and culture is fundamental to our state’s identity. It’s not only meant to drive economic growth, but it goes beyond that.
