In the 2025 general election, held on Nov. 4, the Democrats took the majority in the Dutchess County Legislature.

Republicans previously held a 15-10 majority.

The balance of power was at stake in the races for the Dutchess County Legislature on Election Day 2025.

With the unofficial results posted by the Dutchess County Board of Elections on Nov. 4, the legislature will have a Democratic majority in 2026. The Democrats last secured a majority for a two-year period in 2008 .

Before that, Democrats had not controlled the legislature since 1977, according to Journal archives.
