Denzel Rangvald Clark was born October 24, 1930, in Clarkston, Utah, the youngest of three children of Paul Michael Clark and Rangna Melvina Carlsen. He was raised in Clarkston, Utah.

He attended North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah, where he graduated in 1948. During his high school days, Denzel excelled in the field of athletics, academics, and student government.
