(NewsNation) — Kentucky officials are scheduled to give an update on a deadly crash near Louisville's Muhammad Ali International Airport on Tuesday evening.

A UPS cargo plane traveling from Louisville to Honolulu crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in a fiery explosion that officials say killed at least nine people and injured at least 11 others.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg confirmed nine fatalities as of Wednesday morning, but echoed Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear in saying the number of deaths is expected to grow.

At least 16 families have reported their loved ones unaccounted for, Beshear said.
