Toyota is recalling more than one million cars for malfunctioning rearview cameras, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Oct. 30 recall notice covers 1,024,407 Toyota, Lexus and Subaru vehicles of more than 100 different models and model years equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) system. Impacted cars may experience a blank or frozen image from rearview cameras when in reverse, increasing crash and accident risk.

The impacted vehicles range in year from 2023 to 2020 and include popular models such as the Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota Highlander, Toyota RAV4 and Subaru Solterra.

What to do if you have a recalled Toyota vehicle

Owners of recalled cars should bring them to their closest Toyota dealer, who will update the parking assist software, free of charge. Notifications are expected to be sent via mail by Dec. 16.

Owners can also contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 about recall numbers 25TB13 and 25LB06. Subaru has a separate recall number of WRE25.

Car owners looking to check the status of their vehicles, car parts, or car accessories can enter their information into the NHTSA recall database or check USA TODAY's recall database for car and motor vehicle recalls.
