New York City officially has a new mayor-elect: Zohran Mamdani . His historic victory marks the first time a Muslim person will hold the city’s highest office. The 34-year-old is set to take over for Eric Adams on Jan. 1, 2026.
Mamdani announced his win last night before a cheering crowd of New Yorkers, promising to bring back affordability to the city that they love.
“Let the words we’ve spoken together, the dreams we’ve dreamt together, become the agenda we deliver together. New York, this power, it’s yours. This city belongs to you,” Mamdani said in his victory speech before exiting stage left to a Bollywood song.
