Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has been reelected following a count of second-choice votes.
Frey was declared the unofficial winner of the 2025 mayoral election late Wednesday morning with just over 50% of votes after second-choice votes were counted. His closest challenger, state Sen. Omar Fateh, secured about 44%.
In total, Frey earned 73,723 votes compared to Fateh's 65,377 votes, according to data from the Minnesota Secretary of State.
Hours after the polls closed on Tuesday night, Frey led with almost 42% of first-choice votes, followed by Fateh with nearly 32%. Since neither secured more than 50% of votes, no winner was declared until second-choice votes could be counted.
Frey received 12,279 second-choice votes, while Fateh received 18,763.
