The Northern Nevada large-class volleyball teams have a tough road ahead if they want to make some noise in the state volleyball tournament.
Carson will play top-ranked Bishop Gorman on Friday and 5A-North Regional champion Bishop Manogue will face Coronado. Both matches are on Friday.
Gorman (31-8 overall) has the No. 8-ranked player in the nation in 6-foot-3 Ayanna Watson, who has committed to play for Pitt next year.
Gorman has won five of the past six state titles, interrupted only when Coronado won it all in 2022. The last team from Northern Nevada to win the state title in the large class was Spanish Springs in 2012.
In the 5A-South Regional, Bishop Gorman beat Coronado, 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-12) last Saturday.
