**Tragic Death of Mum-of-Two After Hospital Fall** A mother of two has died three weeks after suffering a fall outside a hospital in Bristol. Lorna Loxton, 55, was visiting the Bristol Royal Infirmary for a cardiology appointment on January 7 when the incident occurred. As she was walking to a taxi, her three-wheeled walking frame reportedly became lodged in a metal flap covering a bollard. This caused her to trip, resulting in a broken hip and a head injury. Ms Loxton underwent surgery for her hip but her condition worsened, leading to her death in hospital on January 28. The cause of death has yet to be formally established, and an inquest is expected to take place at a later date. Her children, Danni, 30, and Mark, 35, have paid tribute to their mother, who lived with myotonic dystrophy, a condition that causes muscle weakness. Danni described her mother as an animal lover who enjoyed caring for horses and her three dogs. “She couldn’t work for a lot of years because of her illness,” Danni said. “Some days she couldn’t even get out of bed, but she did the very best she could. When she would come and see my shows, she was so proud of me.” Danni also shared fond memories of her mother’s love for music, particularly JLS and ’80s hits, as well as her enjoyment of soap operas and Western films. The family is being supported by law firm Slater and Gordon in their quest for answers regarding the circumstances of Ms Loxton’s death. Samantha Griffiths, a senior associate at the firm, described the incident as “absolutely tragic” and highlighted the emotional toll it has taken on Danni and Mark. “Hospitals should be one of the safest possible environments for people with mobility problems who use mobility aids,” Griffiths stated. “This has been far from the case in Lorna’s situation.” A report from University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust indicated that the bollard posts were not being monitored by the estates and facilities team at the time of the incident. The law firm referred to the angle of the metal flap as a potential trip hazard. In response, a spokesperson for the Trust expressed condolences to Ms Loxton’s family and stated, “We are committed to working with the coroner and are unable to comment further while the inquest process is under way.” The family continues to seek clarity on the events leading to Lorna Loxton’s tragic death.
