HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) - A man was found guilty Monday after he had threatened to kill officers during a standoff outside of his ex-wife's home, according to the 43rd Prosecutorial District.
49-year-old Steven Hawkins was found guilty on four counts of assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, violating a domestic violence protection order (DVPO), and purchase of a firearm in violation of a domestic violence protection order.
On April 6, 2024, Hawkins had driven to the house of his ex-wife on Lake Logan Road in Canton, in violation of a DVPO filed against him by his ex-wife. The DVPO stated that Hawkins could not see his ex-wife or purchase any firearms.
Prior to the incident, victims stated that Hawkins would also send messages and voicemails to his ex-wife threatening
