A Virginia man is facing charges after he allegedly led authorities on a chase in a Range Rover in the Florida Keys that ended in a crash, officials said.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon when deputies stopped the Range Rover for reckless driving in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 in the Upper Keys, Monroe County Sheriff's Office officials said.

The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Christopher Brinkley Smithers, fled from the traffic stop and the Florida Highway Patrol took over the pursuit, officials said. Monroe County Sheriff's Office

The chase ended when Smithers struck a center console boat that was being trailered by a pickup truck on Islamorada.
