Several employees of a car wash company were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday, according to the neighborhood’s city councilor and media reports.
City Councilor Liz Breadon cited community members and said that 8 employees of the Allston Car Wash on Cambridge Street were detained as part of an ICE raid.
“My understanding is that those detained were not permitted by ICE to retrieve their documents from their lockers during the raid,” Breadon said in a statement.
Mike Delaney, co-owner of the car wash, said that agents detained nine immigrants who worked at the facility, according to WGBH.
“Our main concern is with our employees that were detained,” Delaney told the outlet. “We really don’t want to do anything that would stir the hornet’s nest.”
