PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — As the longest government shutdown in American history stretches on, Prince George's County opened two new permanent food pantries.
The two food pantries at the north and south county centers join the location in Landover to address food insecurity in the area. According to a press release, the county Department of Social Services said it will also look to help people who rely on SNAP and WIC benefits, which have been threatened during the government shutdown.
The pantries are open thanks to a 12,500-pound food donation from Maryland-based nonprofit So What Else Inc . and food delivery service, MBB Delivery. Plus, nonprofit Food 4 Maryland gave the county a discounted delivery of drumsticks.
