LUTTRELL, Tenn. (WVLT) - The City of Luttrell is facing a federal lawsuit from a group accusing the city of dumping too many pollutants into the Tennessee river system from its sewage treatment plant.

In the lawsuit, Tennessee Riverkeeper says the city has been pumping polluted water into Fall Creek, which connects to the Holston and, in turn, Tennessee rivers. The city does have a state permit to unload some polluted material into the creek, but the lawsuit says the city is dumping more than that permit allows.

A warning notice from Tennessee Riverkeeper obtained by WVLT News says the city’s sewage treatment plant has been violating that permit since 2023, with too-high amounts of substances like E. coli, nitrogen and waste solids being detected.
