CHARLOTTE, N.C. — You may have heard the November full moon referred to as the Beaver Moon . And that's the case ... usually.

But this year, November's full moon is called the Hunter's Moon.

Why? The full moons of September, October and November are named depending on their proximity to the autumnal equinox, according to EarthSky.org .

The full moon closest to the equinox is called the Harvest Moon, which fell on Oct. 6, 2025. The full moon after that, the Hunter’s Moon, can occur in either late October or early November.

This can get confusing since the dates change every year, so 2025 should be considered the exception, not the rule.
