Under fire from Quebec opposition parties, Premier François Legault defended the federal Liberal budget on Wednesday, saying it is essential for Ottawa to spend heavily amid economic uncertainty and that Quebec will claim its share of the surge in defence spending.
A day after the budget was tabled, Québec solidaire co-spokesperson Ruba Ghazal called it a “rebuke for Quebec” for failing to boost funding for schools, hospitals and public transit.
“How long will the premier of Quebec continue to be in the shadow of the federal government, which clearly doesn’t care about Quebecers?” she asked Legault in the National Assembly.
