The head of the Michigan National Guard says troops aren’t needed in Detroit.

“I look to the law enforcement professionals to handle any challenges that Michigan may have,” said Major General Paul D. Rogers, the adjutant general of the Michigan National Guard. “And we are always there to support if the need is there and if the governor directs us to, but I see no need for it in Michigan at all.”

Rogers gave those remarks Wednesday, Nov. 5, before the House Committee on Homeland Security and Foreign Influence. He was responding to a question about whether he anticipated “any action” in Detroit, to which he said “no.”

The major general also testified about the role of the Michigan National Guard and homeland security issues facing the state.
