A Greater Manchester Police officer 'took limited or no steps to pursue obvious lines of enquiry' after a vulnerable woman told her she had been sexually assaulted as a child.

Helen Jones, now a former constable, did record the crime report, but was 'subsequently wholly neglectful in the discharge of her professional duty' afterwards, GMP's top cop has said.

Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson said after a misconduct hearing: "Given the prevalence of legitimate criticism surrounding the past failures of public agencies, including the police, to deal effectively with historic child sexual exploitation and to care for those victims of such dreadful offending, the harmful effects of Ms Jones' neglect are readily evident.
