AUSTIN, Texas — On Tuesday, Austin voters rejected Proposition Q – a measure that would have increased property taxes by more than 20% indefinitely to fund homelessness prevention, safety, parks, public health, finances and Austin's general fund.

Around 63% of voters across Williamson, Travis and Hays counties voted against the proposition, while around 37% voted for it.

Proposition Q would have added around $300 a year to the average homeowner’s property tax bill and added roughly $110 million for the present fiscal year. The proposition was presented as a way to help address the city's $33 million budget deficit.
