Two former Mets coaches are headed to an NL East rival — including one who had previously hoped to stay.

The Atlanta Braves announced the hirings of Jeremy Hefner and Antoan Richardson on Wednesday afternoon. Hefner becomes the new pitching coach under manager Walt Weiss, holding the same title in Atlanta that he held with the Mets, and Richardson the first base coach.

Hefner’s contract wasn’t renewed for 2026, so he was seeking other jobs already, but losing Richardson hurts. The Mets asked him to return next season, but were unable to come to terms on a new contract before his deal expired last week. Recent reports have indicated that it was his choice to leave, but the 42-year-old Bahamian is pushing back on that narrative, saying he wanted to return to the Mets.
