LAKEWOOD, Ohio (WOIO) - Thai Thai in Lakewood opened their doors on an off day to make sure their neighborhood was fed.
With the help of volunteers like Logan Abbe and Melissa McCarthy, they handed out free bowls of ramen after they heard SNAP benefits were going to be delayed.
“Food, I think, is a right,” said McCarthy. “Everyone should have access to food”.
The state of Ohio has authorized $25,000,000 to help food banks. The federal government is rolling out partial SNAP benefits. But it could take weeks before the help gets to those who are struggling.
“Food is increasing in price,” said Abbe. “We’re not sure when we’re going to get the support we need. In these kinds of situations its really important to have that full stomach to be able to think clear.”
