FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - Fort Wayne City Utilities marked the completion of its long-term control plan on Wednesday.
The celebration was held at Promenade Park from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and included a time to recognize all parties involved in the plan, as well as interactive displays of utilities projects, family-friendly activities, giveaways, and light refreshments.
The plan, which worked to protect the city’s rivers and strengthen its neighborhoods, is a milestone 18 years in the making.
According to city officials, the plan reduced overflows on the city’s rivers by 90%, protected approximately 45,000 homes from basement backups and flooding, impacted more than 200 neighborhoods, and created over 14,000 jobs.
